Rafah Crossing Reopens as Gaza Violence Continues

Israel has reopened the Rafah Crossing with Egypt after nearly three weeks, allowing a limited number of wounded Palestinians to leave Gaza Strip for medical treatment.

The crossing was opened to permit eight injured Palestinian , along with 17 accompanying family members, to travel to Egypt for care, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society. It remains unclear how many people will be allowed to return to Gaza from Egypt.

The move comes amid ongoing violence in Gaza, where local health officials reported that at least four people were killed in Israeli airstrikes earlier in the day.

Sources say the decision to reopen the crossing followed discussions in Cairo involving envoys linked to U.S. President Donald Trump and officials from Hamas. The talks were aimed at preserving a fragile ceasefire in Gaza, which has come under increasing strain following recent U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran.

The Rafah Crossing has been largely closed since May 2024, with only limited openings, including a brief reopening earlier this year. Its latest reopening offers some relief to Palestinians seeking urgent medical treatment abroad or attempting to return after being displaced by the conflict.

However, the situation on the ground remains volatile. Israeli airstrikes, which had briefly decreased following attacks on Iran on February 28, have reportedly intensified again in recent days. In Gaza City, at least four فلسطਿਨians were killed in two separate air raids, underscoring the continuing humanitarian crisis.
