Trump Criticizes NATO Allies as Iran Conflict Escalates, Oil Prices Surge

U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized NATO allies for refusing to support the United States during the ongoing conflict with Iran.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed frustration, calling NATO countries “weak” and claiming the alliance would be ineffective without U.S. backing. He argued that member nations avoided participating in efforts to counter Iran, despite its nuclear capabilities, and are now complaining about rising oil prices after the conflict has been “militarily won.”

Meanwhile, tensions in the region continue to rise. Israel has claimed responsibility for a targeted airstrike in Tehran that reportedly killed Ismail Ahmadi, the intelligence chief of Iran’s Basij force. According to Israeli military sources, the strike hit a command center in central Tehran. However, Iranian authorities have not yet issued an official response, fueling speculation about the seriousness of the incident.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated late Thursday that, at Trump’s request, Israel would refrain from further attacks on a key Iranian gas field. Despite this, Iran has intensified strikes on oil and natural gas facilities across the Gulf region, raising concerns about global energy security.

The situation has been further complicated by Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments. Disruptions in the area have already strained fuel supplies, and the latest attacks have driven prices even higher.

Since the conflict began on February 28, several senior Iranian leaders have reportedly been killed. Although Iran’s military capabilities have been weakened, it continues to launch missile and drone attacks on neighboring Arab countries.

Recent strikes targeting shipping routes and Saudi oil refineries have pushed crude oil prices up to $119 per barrel—an increase of more than 60 percent since the start of the war—sending shockwaves through global energy markets and the wider economy.
