One arrested with weapons after altercation
The RCMP officers in Nanaimo arrested one person after an armed altercation.
In a statement the Nanaimo RCMP said that the officers learned that there had been an altercation in the parking lot between a group of men and several unhoused persons. During the altercation, weapons which included bear spray, knives and a handgun were allegedly produced. Two individuals were struck with a burst of bear spray. Attending Fire Crews and BCEHS treated both for effects of the spray.
Responding officers located two persons nearby matching the description of persons involved. Both were arrested. Several hours later, officers attended to a home in central Nanaimo where one other person was located and arrested in connection with the incident. One other person remains at large.
Three suspects ranging, age 18, 19, and 40 were later released from custody on undertakings. All are scheduled to appear in court on May 12, 2026.
No serious injuries were reported and the investigation remains ongoing.
