Gurdaspur encounter: Family cremates Ranjit Singh
The last rites of Ranjit Singh, who was killed in a police encounter, were performed in his native village Adian Monday. Police have arrested three other accused in connection with the incident, while Ranjit Singh was killed during an encounter on February 25.
Earlier, the family had announced that they would not perform his funeral rites. However, considering the condition of his body, the family and supporting organizations decided to carry out the cremation.
Since Ranjit Singh was unmarried, his family performed the traditional ritual of placing a sehra on him before the cremation. A large number of leaders from social organizations and local villagers gathered at his residence to pay their respects.
Family members and leaders of the organizations stated that their fight for justice will continue. They also announced that the next course of action will be decided on March 16, the day of Ranjit Singh’s bhog ceremony.
