Surrey man charged for brandishing firearms

A man has had several Criminal Code charges approved against him following a Surrey Police Service (SPS) investigation into an incident that occurred on March 7,  at a business in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood.

Shortly before 2:30 pm on March 7, 2026, SPS Frontline officers were called to a business in the 7800 block 132 Street where it was reported that a man, who was being held by staff, had allegedly entered the business and brandished a firearm, that was then taken away by an employee. Officers arrived, took custody of the suspect, and seized the firearm. An additional firearm was seized following a search warrant at a residential property in Surrey. 

Rajwinder Singh Sandhu, a 45-year-old male, has been charged with One count of uttering threats contrary to Section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code, One count of pointing a firearm contrary to Section 87(1) of the Criminal Code, One count of using a firearm while uttering threats contrary to Section 85(1) of the Criminal Code and One count of carelessly transporting a firearm contrary to Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code. 

Rajwinder Sandhu was released by the court and his next scheduled appearance is on April 1,  in Surrey Provincial Court.
