Vancouver Police Department Establishes VPD Police Academy

The decision to grant the VPD Police Academy represents a significant milestone for public safety in Vancouver and across the Province.

The creation of the VPD Police Academy marks a major step forward. This will strengthen the department’s ability to recruit, train, and prepare the next generation of police officers for the City of Vancouver.

“The VPD Police Academy is intended to enhance the essential work of the Justice Institute of British Columbia, helping ensure future police officers are prepared for the evolving demands of modern policing,” said Vancouver Police Chief Constable Steve Rai. “The JIBC will remain an important institution for police education in British Columbia.”

“This moment has been years in the making,” said Chief Constable Rai. “It reflects years of planning, advocacy, and collaboration driven by a shared commitment to building a safer Vancouver and a safer Province.”

On behalf the VPD, we would like to thank the Province, Mayor Ken Sim, our City Councillors and the Vancouver Police Board who continue to support and recognize the extraordinary public safety pressures the City of Vancouver faces.

“Public safety is the foundation of a thriving city,” added Chief Constable Rai. “This investment will prepare the officers who will serve the City of Vancouver for decades to come.”
