SGPC terminates head granthi of Harmandir Sahib
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has terminated the services of Giani Raghbir Singh as Head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib with immediate effect amid an ongoing dispute.
SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said the decision was taken during a meeting of the executive committee at the SGPC headquarters. He stated that the matter of the 72-hour notice issued to Giani Raghbir Singh was reviewed, and after deliberations, the committee found that he failed to provide evidence supporting allegations he had made against the SGPC’s administration.
Dhami said the committee also concluded that Giani Raghbir Singh had violated service rules by raising administrative questions publicly and making statements to the media that allegedly defamed the SGPC’s management. The committee felt that his remarks had undermined the dignity of the Head Granthi’s position at Sri Harmandir Sahib.
Although his term had not yet expired, Giani Raghbir Singh had been on extended leave for the past several months. In his absence, Giani Amarjit Singh has been serving as the acting Head Granthi.
The appointment of the new head granthi was not announced yet.
