A jewellery shop owner in Amritsar district received the extortion calls from unidentified foreign numbers. Local police registered a case and launched a probe. 

The extortion calls to the businessmen had become rampant in the state where the opposition parties raised questions on the law and order situation.

The victim identified as Kartik Malhotra, who runs a jewelry shop in Jandiala Guru area of the district. Malhitra told the police that the caller demanded Rs. 30 lakh.
