Surrey: Demand for bullet proof glasses up due to shootings

Perturbed over the ongoing wave of extortion related incidents, many residents in Surrey started looking to secure their businesses and residences with bullet proof glasses. There is a high demand for the bullet proof glasses in the city where 36 cases related to extortion have already been reported.

An Abbotsford based Glass Workshop owner told Sher-e-Punjab requesting anonymity that there was a surge in demand for the bullet proof glasses. He added that the demand increased after a number of drive by shootings have been reported in Surrey.

“Yes, people call and ask if we can install the bullet proof glasses in our houses and businesses, these bullet proof glasses can stop the bullets and save lives,” he added.

Another glass house owner based in Surrey, said that they installed bullet proof glasses in some businesses in the city as it had become a centre of extortion related crimes.

In the first month of this year, Surrey had witnessed 36 extortion related cases, eight shootings.

Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke had declared a ‘state of emergency’ in the city due to the high number of such incidents while BC Premier David Eby termed it as ‘terrorism’.
