Israeli Airstrikes Hit Southern Lebanon Despite Ceasefire
Israeli jets struck several towns in southern Lebanon on Thursday,
including Tayba and Aita al-Jabal, despite a ceasefire agreed in 2024.
The Israeli army said it targeted Hezbollah’s weapons sites hidden in
civilian areas, while Lebanon’s health ministry confirmed one person
killed and another wounded.
Lebanese officials condemned the attacks, saying they destroy
chances for peace. President Joseph Aoun accused Israel of rejecting
negotiations and ordered the army to confront any incursions. Prime
Minister Nawaf Salam’s government met to discuss disarming
Hezbollah and other armed groups.
Hezbollah warned Lebanon not to enter talks with Israel, saying it has
the right to resist occupation. The U.S. also imposed new sanctions
on Hezbollah-linked money networks. Fears are growing of a wider
conflict as both sides accuse each other of violating the ceasefire. Pic
