Jalalabad police arrested Vardev Singh alias Noni Mann-senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal
(SAD) in connection with a firing incident which took place last year outside the office of Block
Development and Panchayat Officer’s (BDPO) office. The incident took place during the filing of
nomination papers in 2024 panchayat elections.
Mann had unsuccessfully contested the state assembly elections twice on SAD ticket from
Guru Har Sahai. It was alleged that two rival groups clashed outside the BDPO’s office during
the filing of the nomination papers. Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) leader Mandeep Singh Brar, who
was contesting as a sarpanch, was seriously injured in the incident.
