PU admin restructuring put on hold
The union government Tuesday postponed its decision of dissolution of the senate and
syndicates of Panjab University following the intensified protest by the students. Some Punjabi
singers and politicians, too joined the protest alleging a ‘conspiracy’ to take away Punjab’s right
to the premier educational institute.
In the new order issued by the union government, the older order of restructuring the
university's powerful governing body was put on hold. It was alleged by the protesting students
that the central government wanted to usurp the rights of Punjab in the university’s decision
making body.
The protest started on October 28 when the decision to restructure the university’s syndicate
and senate had come to light.
