France has detected a new variant of COVID-19, named as IHU. It was found to have infected 12 people near Marseille, a port city in southern France.
There are 46 mutations in IHU which is more than the mutations found in omicron. The cases are linked to travel to African Country Cameroon.
A new strain of omicron has not been spotted in other countries yet and the World Health Organization (WHO) has not labeled it a variant under investigation. It has not added strains to its database since it added omicron in November 2021.
