Kathmandu: Nepal on Monday put fugitive radical preacher Amritpal Singh on its surveillance list. Amritpal Singh is believed to be hiding in Nepal.
India had requested Nepal not to allow Amritpal Singh to flee to any third country with the help of an Indian passport or any other fake passport and arrest him if he tries to escape.
Nepalese officials said that following a request from the Indian Embassy, the Immigration Department has put Amritpal on its surveillance list.
“We have received a written note from the Indian embassy along with a copy of his passport, suspecting that Amritpal Singh has entered Nepal and is hiding somewhere in the vicinity,” Kamal Prasad Pandey, information officer of the immigration department, said.
Earlier, the Kathmandu Post newspaper had reported that the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, in a letter to the Consular Services Department on Saturday, requested government agencies to arrest Amritpal Singh if he tries to flee Nepal. “Amritpal Singh is currently hiding in Nepal.
“Amritpal Singh is currently hiding in Nepal. The Respected Ministry is requested to inform the Department of Immigration that Amritpal Singh should not be allowed to travel to any third country through Nepal and arrest him if he tries to flee Nepal using an Indian passport or any other fake passport under the information of this Mission, ” Indian embassy told the Nepal government in a letter last week.
