Chandigarh: Former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu will be released on April 1, said Sidhu’s wife on Twitter on Friday. The tweet reads that senior officials have informed her about Sidhu’s release.
Navjot Singh Sidhu is getting this benefit of not taking any remission during the sentence, officials said.
He was sentenced to one year imprisonment on May 19, 2022 in the road rage case. Sidhu went to jail on May 20, 2022.
Sidhu’s sentence ends on May 19, but he will be released earlier due to holidays. According to experts, apart from NDPS and serious offences, a relaxation of 4 to 5 days is given depending on the work assigned in a month and the conduct of the prisoners.
Apart from this, the prisoner also gets the benefit of some government holidays. Navjot Singh Sidhu did not seek remission even once during the entire sentence.
