Chandigarh: Manisha Gulati, chairperson of Punjab Women’s Commission, has been removed from the post. Manisha Gulati’s term was extended by the Punjab government on 18 September 2020.
According to the orders issued by the Social Security Women and Child Department, there was no such rule in the government books that her term could be extended. For this reason, the order to make her chairperson has been withdrawn.
Manisha Gulati, who was the chairperson of the Punjab Women’s Commission, was earlier in the Congress. But she joined the BJP last year. As soon as she left the Congress, she targeted then CM Charanjit Singh Channi.
She had said that her dignity was hurt while she was in the Congress. Being a Hindu, she was targeted.
Gulati is considered close to Captain Amarinder Singh. It was Captain who handed over the charge of chairperson to Manisha after becoming CM.
Manisha Gulati had raised the #MeToo issue against former CM Charanjit Singh Channi two years ago. A notice was also issued while taking action, but the matter was calmed down after Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh intervened. The matter came into the limelight again as soon as Channi became CM.
