New Westminster: The police have made an arrest after witnesses reported a taxi was driving dangerously in the city’s Uptown neighbourhood.
The New Westminster police said on Wednesday around 1:40 pm, officers were told by 911 calls that a taxi was driving erratically and witnesses described the taxi was also striking other vehicles and pedestrians.
Officers flooded the area to locate the taxi and when they located the taxi, officers used their vehicles to block it in place, the police added.
The New Westminster police said one suspect was taken into police custody and transported to local hospital with minor injuries.
“There was a very real concern for the safety of pedestrians and other vulnerable road users,” said Sergeant Andrew Leaver.
“This vehicle was driving erratically in one of the busiest areas of our city. This was an extremely high risk situation and we’re thankful no one was seriously injured,” he added.
Sergeant Leaver said this investigation is in its early stages and at this time, police believe the taxi was stolen and that this is a carjacking.
