Chandigarh: A district court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s bail plea in the Kotkapura firing case. However, the application of former deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal has been rejected in this case.
Apart from this, the district court has also rejected the bail plea of the then SSP Sukhmander Singh Mann. The verdict was pronounced in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajiv Kalra.
Earlier, the court had reserved its order after a two hours discussion in the case yesterday.
Former CM Badal and his son Sukhbir Badal, former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, besides five police officers have been summoned to appear before the court on March 23 to present their case in the Kotkapura firing case.
On February 24, 2022, the SIT had filed a 7,000-page charge sheet in the Faridkot court in the Kotkapura firing case.
The charge sheet indicted Parkash Badal, Sukhbir Badal, former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, then IG Paramraj Umranangal, SSP Moga Charanjit Sharma, SSP Faridkot Sukhmander Mann, DIG Ferozepur Amar Singh Chahal and then SHO City Kotkapura Gurdeep Singh.
