New Delhi: India summoned the most senior British diplomat in Delhi on Sunday night and sought an explanation over the “absence of security arrangements” after a video surfaced showing pro-Khalistan separatist elements trying to lower the Indian flag at the Indian High Commission in London during a protest.
In a strong statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India has witnessed “apathy” by the UK government towards the security of Indian diplomatic premises and personnel in the UK, which is unacceptable.
British Deputy High Commissioner Christina Scott was summoned to the State Department in the wake of the incident as High Commissioner Alex Ellis is out of Delhi, the sources said.
“A senior British diplomat in New Delhi was summoned late this evening to express India’s strong protest over the actions taken by separatist and extremist elements against the Indian High Commission in London,” the MEA said.
