Kottayam: A day after reports of the murder of an Indian-origin nurse and her two young children in the UK, her family on Saturday alleged that her husband was a “cruel” man in the past and had attacked his wife.

The family said their problems have increased further. He needs around Rs 30 lakh to bring the bodies back to India and see his daughter and grandchildren one last time.

Nurse Anju Ashok, 35, and her children, a six-year-old son and a four-year-old girl, were found seriously injured at their home in the Northampton area in Kettering, eastern England, on Thursday.

According to the police, Anju Ashok died on the spot and the children succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

Speaking to the media at their home in Vaikom area of Kerala’s Kottayam district, Anju Ashok’s parents said the local police had informed them last night that as per their daughter’s postmortem, she was strangled to death with a cloth or rope. The post-mortem of his grandchildren was to be conducted today.

Anju Ashok’s mother alleged that her son-in-law Saju is a “cruel” person and had seen him attack her daughter and grandson when they were both living in Saudi Arabia.

“I was living with my granddaughter when she was born. I have seen him beating Anju and my grandson. He is a cruel person. He gets angry very quickly. I was afraid to be alone with him at home there.

“But my daughter never complained, she silently endured everything because she didn’t want us to worry. I am sure his cruelty continued when they went to England.”
