Chandigarh: A case of attempt to murder under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against members of the Rashtriya Insaaf Morcha (SJM) following a clash with the police at the Chandigarh-Mohali border yesterday. Two cases have been registered at Mataur police stations in Chandigarh and Mohali. A case has been registered by the Chandigarh Police. Apart from this, a case has been registered against 20 other suspects.

According to the information, the case has been registered under sections 147, 148, 149, 186, 332, 335 and the Arms Act. DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla and IG Gurpreet Bhullar rushed to the hospital to enquire about the condition of the policemen injured in the violent clash, who are admitted to phase-6 hospital in Mohali.

Police officials said that after the violent clash yesterday, FIRs have been registered against the members of the ‘Rashtriya Insaaf Morcha’ and arrests will also be made soon.

It may be recalled that the Rashtriya Insaaf Morcha has been staging a sit-in at the Chandigarh-Mohali border demanding the release of the Sikh Prisoners.

On Wednesday, they attempted to enter Chandigarh from Mohali forcibly to hold a protest outside Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence in Chandigarh. But their attempt was foiled by security forces and in the meantime, several police personnel were injured when the protesters clashed with them while they tried to enter Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, Sikh activists continue to hold their protest and demanded to enter Chandigarh for holding protest against CM Mann to press for their demands.
