New Delhi: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been injured in firing at his rally on Thursday.

Imran Khan has been constantly opening a front with the government since he stepped down from the post of Prime Minister. Five people were injured in the firing.

The former PM of Pakistan was injured in the attack in Gujranwala. He was immediately taken to the hospital. His right leg was seen bandaged when he was being taken to an SUV. The shooter has been arrested. He fired at Imran Khan when the former cricketer stood on his truck during part of the Azadi March against his Shahbaz government.

The incident is reminiscent of the attack on former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007 when she was shot dead at a rally. However, according to the agencies, Imran Khan has not suffered serious injuries.

As soon as the sound of firing came in Imran Khan’s rally, there was a chaos in the camp set up to welcome him at Allahwala Chowk. In April, Imran had to step down after allegedly losing the confidence of the army.

Following criticism over his anti-army remarks, former Khan on Sunday said his party wanted the Pakistan Army to be “strong” and his “constructive” criticism was not aimed at harming the powerful force.

Imran Khan is demanding early elections to end the political deadlock in the country. For the past several days, the 70-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief had been holding “Haqiqi Azadi March” at different places, targeting his opponents over alleged corruption.
