Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police has registered a case against Haryana Sports Minister and Olympian Sandeep Singh on charges of molestation on the complaint of a junior women’s coach.

Sandeep Singh yesterday met Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar after a case was registered and stepped down from the post of Sports Minister. On the other hand, the Haryana DGP has constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising IPS officers Mamta Singh, Samar Pratap Singh and HPS officer Rajkumar Kaushik to probe the case.

On Friday, the Junior Women’s Coach of Haryana, while talking to reporters, had levelled serious allegations of molestation against Sandeep Singh. The complainant had alleged that she was molested by the sports minister on July 1, 2022. She had lodged a complaint in this regard with the SSP, Chandigarh and the Haryana Police. Sandeep Singh had won the 2019 Assembly elections from Pehowa assembly constituency in Haryana.

Speaking to reporters in Chandigarh, Sandeep Singh denied the allegations levelled against him. He said that someone is trying to tarnish his image as part of a conspiracy.

Sandeep said he had given up the responsibility of the sports department on moral grounds and handed over the responsibility to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. As long as the case is under investigation, it will be the chief minister who will look after the affairs of the sports department.
