Washington: Eminent Indian-American attorney Harmeet Dhillon could not win the republican national committee (RNC) chairman’s election. In this high-profile election held on Friday, Ronna McDaniel was once again elected as the RNC president.

McDaniel, considered close to former President Donald Trump, will have a two-year term. In the election held through secret ballot, she got 111 votes, while Dhillon got 51 votes. At the same time, Mypillow CEO Mike Lindell had to be satisfied with four votes.

The election has exposed the growing internal divide in the Republican Party, which could affect its chances in the 2024 US presidential elections.

The election for the RNC president was held at a southern California resort, where 168 members (activists and elected office-bearers) of the RNC voter group from all 50 provinces gathered.

Soon after the results were announced, McDaniel invited her rivals to the stage. “If we all work together, democrats will hear our echo in the 2024 election,” she said.

With this victory, McDaniel has become the longest-serving RNC president since the Civil War. Trump had selected her to lead the RNC in 2016.

“The party is not united,” Dhillon, McDaniel’s main rival and Trump’s lawyer, told reporters. No one is going to remain united with the kind of activities that are going on in the party right now. It seems that grassroots leaders and workers are being ignored. ”

Trump personally supported McDaniel. The former president also congratulated McDaniel on social media for her victory in the RNC presidential election.
