Washington: The Presidential Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders has unanimously approved a recommendation to seal H-1B visas in the US. If President Joe Biden approves it, then it will be a big relief to thousands of professionals, especially Indians.
The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to recruit foreign workers in specialty occupations.
Technology companies depend on it to recruit thousands of workers every year from countries like India and China. Under the current procedure, a person is required to apply for a visa to be stamped at the US Embassy or Consulate in their country to get a job in a US company.
The President’s advisory commission on Asian Americans, people of Hawaiian descent and the Pacific made the decision at a meeting held at the White House yesterday.
