Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has said that the state government will approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the case of Uttar Pradesh gangster Mukhtar Ansari.
Distributing appointment letters to the youth here, he said gangster Ansari was kept in jail in Punjab for two-and-a-half years and crores of rupees were spent on him. Apart from this, 55 lakh was charged by lawyers for defending his case against Uttar Pradesh gangster, which the Punjab government has denied to pay. This has put a burden on the exchequer of Punjab, CM said.
Mann said the Punjab government would not pay the cost and would approach the court for the same. He said the money would be reimbursed from the ministers who had signed up to keep Ansari in a Punjab jail. Gangster Mukhtar Ansari was lodged in Rupnagar jail in Punjab between January 2019 and April 2021.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Police wanted him to be taken to jail, for which the Uttar Pradesh Police had sent 25 reminders to the Punjab government, but the Congress government did not hand Ansari over to the Uttar Pradesh Police. On this, the Uttar Pradesh Police had approached the Supreme Court.
