Chandigarh: The security of four leaders who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the Congress has been increased on basis of intelligence inputs.
The Home Ministry has beefed up the security cover of former Punjab cabinet ministers Balbir Singh Sidhu, Gurpreet Singh Kangar, former MLAs Jagdeep Singh and Amarjit Singh Tikka. The Home Ministry has given X category security to these leaders in view of the possibility of threat to their lives. Now these leaders will be given security by paramilitary force (CRPF) personnel.
The Union Home Ministry has issued an order to the CRPF to provide round-the-clock security to these BJP leaders after assessing the security on the basis of the Intelligence Bureau report.
The four leaders had recently quit the Congress and joined the BJP. After this, the lives of these four leaders were said to be in danger. The IB had received reports that these leaders could be attacked anytime.
Therefore, the agency recommended giving X category security to these leaders and the central government stamped it.
Significantly, during the Punjab Assembly elections, these leaders had contested on Congress tickets. After the debacle of the Congress in the elections, all these leaders joined the BJP.
