Chandigarh: Former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi has embroiled himself in a controversy after he wore a Himachali cap over the turban.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has accused him of hurting religious sentiments.

According to the information, Channi was on a tour of Himachal Pradesh a few days ago. He met Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.

During this time, CM Sukhu offered him a shawl and cap to honor Channi, but Channi kept the Himachali cap on top of the Turban. After this, the matter took a religious color and sikh organizations started opposing and objecting to it.

SGPC has also objected to the issue and demanded an apology from Channi, calling it a violation of Sikh ‘maryada’.

Following this, Channi offered an unconditional apology and said that it was an unintentional mistake.
