Chandigarh: Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and former MP Sunil Jakhar have been given a big responsibility by the BJP. The two veterans, who have quit the Congress and joined the BJP, have been appointed as members of the BJP’s national executive.
Apart from Captain Amarinder Singh and Sunil Jakhar, Rana Gurmeet Sodhi and Manoranjan Kalia have been appointed as special invitees to the National Working Committee. Along with this, youth leader Jaiveer Shergill has been appointed as the national spokesperson.
Captain had resigned after quitting the post of CM
Captain Amarinder Singh resigned as chief minister in 2021 following the infighting in the Punjab Congress. After this, he resigned from the Congress and formed his party Punjab Lok Congress.
After the defeat in the elections, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in September 2022 and merged his party with the BJP.
Likewise, former Congress chief and former MP Sunil Jakhar joined the BJP in May 2022. Jakhar, who was once a strong contender for Congress CM face, had alleged that he was not getting the post because he was a Hindu.
At the time of his resignation from the Congress, Jakhar had said that three generations of his family had served the Congress. Now I will do politics of nationalism, unity and brotherhood in Punjab along with BJP.
