Ottawa: A week after announcing that a special rapporteur to take on the matter of interference in federal elections by China and other issues of foreign meddling, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Canadians will know who has been appointed in the coming days or week.

Speaking to reporters in Nova Scotia on Tuesday, Trudeau said, “We know how important it is for Canadians to have confidence in our system and that’s why we need the right independent expert.” “The issue here is not what one political party or another party says. “It is also important to ensure that experts are working together to uphold the integrity of our democratic process,” he said.

In keeping with the mixed views being received by Canadians on the issue, Trudeau has expressed confidence that the Liberals will agree with his decision if any expert is selected for this work to conduct an investigation.
