Ottawa: The federal government is introducing changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program, reducing contracts from two years to one and limiting foreign hires to 10% of a business’s workforce, down from 20%. Restaurants Canada warns this will worsen the existing 73,000 job vacancies, particularly in rural and tourist areas. The organization argues the changes increase administrative burdens and training costs for employers. They advocate for a shift toward permanent immigration solutions rather than short-term fixes. Critics also raise concerns about workers’ vulnerability due to contracts tied to a single employer.
