Vancouver: The deputy leader of the BC Green Party, Dr. Sanjiv Gandhi, has been nominated as the party’s candidate for Vancouver Renfrew in the next provincial election.

Party Leader Sonia Furstenau and Green Party of Canada Leader Elizabeth May made the announcement on Thursday.

Gandhi, a former surgeon at BC Children’s Hospital, ended his clinical practice earlier this year and says he is excited at the prospect of serving the province in a different way.

Vancouver Renfrew was recently formed when several ridings were added in B-C after the last general election, and is predominantly the former Kingsway riding which has been held by Health Minister Adrian Dix since 2005. — Canadian Press
