Chandigarh: The Chandigarh district court has dismissed dera chief Ram Rahim’s plea in the Faridkot sacrilege case. Ram Rahim had demanded some other documents including CBI’s closure report from the court in the case. However, this plea of Dera chief has been rejected by the court.

In 2015, the Supreme Court had transferred the trial of the case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim and others in the sacrilege case of Guru Granth Sahib from a Court in Faridkot to Chandigarh.

The petitioners had argued in the Supreme Court that there was a threat to their lives. After this, the case was transferred out of Punjab to Chandigarh for hearing.

Pradeep Singh, an accused in the sacrilege case, was shot dead in Kotkapura in November 2022. Subsequently, a transfer petition was filed in the Supreme Court by Dera followers Sukhjinder Singh, Shakti Singh, Ranjit Singh, Nishan Singh, Baljit Singh, Randeep Singh and Narinder Kumar Sharma. In this, the accused had demanded the transfer of three cases of sacrilege out of Punjab.
