Moscow: Daria Dugina, the daughter of Russian nationalist ideologue Alexander Dugin, known as the “brain of Putin”, has been killed in a car explosion on the outskirts of Moscow. According to the branch of the Moscow region’s investigative committee, the explosion occurred on Saturday night due to a bomb planted in the SUV of Daria Dugina, 29.
Duggin is a key proponent of the concept of a “Russian world” and a staunch supporter of sending Russian troops to Ukraine. Although Dugin’s relationship with President Putin is not clear, the Russian president’s office often repeats his writings and his statements made on Russia’s state TV channel.
She helped reinforce the idea of a new Russia that is used by Russia to annex Crimea and support separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine. Dugina also expressed similar views and appeared as a commentator on the nationalist TV channel ‘Zargrad’.
Dugina was sanctioned by the US in March for working as the editor-in-chief of the United World International. This website has been placed in the category of propaganda by the US. Zargrad said on Sunday that Dugina, like her father, had always been at the forefront of confrontation with the West. The blast took place when Dugina was returning home after a cultural programme in which she had joined her father.
