B.C.’s Highway 5 Coquihalla route is being opened for essential commercial travel by the end of the day Monday, Dec. 20, Transportation Minister Rob Fleming said Wednesday.
“The response by our maintenance contractors, subcontractors or engineers to get the Coquihalla Highway opened is as unprecedented as the storms that damaged it in the first place,” Fleming said. “They’ve been working around the clock in very challenging conditions.”
Officials said the highway will reopen at some point on Dec. 20, and that the exact timing will be determined over the coming days.
The highway will be subject to an essential-only travel order when it reopens.
