Amritsar: The SGPC has selected 117 volunteer preachers for the purpose of propagating Sikhism in the border areas. These preachers are trained in Sikh missionary colleges and Gurmat Vidyalayas run by the Dharma Prachar Committee, SGPC officials said.
On the occasion, SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that at present, more and more preachers are needed for Sikh propaganda, so as to connect with Sikh history and Gurmat principles as well as to make the sangat aware of the national challenges.
He said that for some time now, issues like conversion were being deliberately raised, which needed to be identified at the ground level and the sangat aware of misleading propaganda. These volunteer campaigners will work in this direction.
He said the SGPC was working on the matter at the ground level and the aim of the Sikh body was not to show off, but to connect the misguided people with Sikhism.
Recently, the Akal Takht Jathedar, Giani Harpreet Singh showed his concern over “forced conversions” into Christianity and also called a gathering to discuss this matter.
He warned that the practice shall not be tolerated anymore and asked Sikhs to spread awareness against these propaganda.
