Vadodara: A communal clash broke out between two communities over bursting fireworks on Diwali in Gujarat’s Vadodara city on Monday night. After this, the police detained 19 people from both sides, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place around 12:45 am on Monday in the communally sensitive Panigate area.
Among those detained was a man who allegedly hurled a bomb at a policeman from a third-floor house about an hour after the clash broke out, Vadodara Deputy Commissioner of Police Yashpal Jaganiya said.
No one was injured in the incident, the official said. A motorcycle parked in the area caught fire after a rocket fell on it, he said.
He said people from both sides started pelting stones at each other following a dispute over bursting of crackers and throwing rocket bombs at each other.
Security forces have been deployed in the area following the incident and the situation is under control, the official said. DC said suspects from both communities were being questioned.
