Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday. Various issues pertaining to border state security including drone infiltration, law and order situation were discussed in the meeting, officials said.
This is the first meeting between the Punjab CM and the Home Minister after the incident in Ajnala where Waris Punjab De head Amritpal Singh and his supporters clashed with the police for the release of one of their associate.
The AAP government in Punjab has come under attack from opposition parties over the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state. While the BJP has demanded Governor’s rule in the state, the Punjab Congress has demanded the arrest of Amritpal Singh and his supporters for attacking police personnel in Ajnala.
After the Ajnala incident, the CM had said that his government will maintain law and order in the state and no one will be allowed to disturb its peace.
Referring to Punjab’s militancy era, Mann said the state and its people had suffered a lot due to dark days in the past and they only wanted peace and progress.
Mann also said that though some divisive forces are continuously trying to derail the peace and progress of the state, their nefarious designs will not be allowed to succeed.
