Amritsar: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia today said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and its chief minister Bhagwant Mann had failed the minorities in Punjab by failing to maintain peace and law and order.
The senior leader, who participated in the 23rd Chetna March to commemorate the 361st birth anniversary of Baba Jeewan Singh here, when questioned about the vandalism of a church in Tarn Taran, said ensuring law and order was the prime responsibility of the government and it had continuously failed on this front. He said such unfortunate incidents were occurring because the Punjab government was being remote controlled from Delhi.
Asserting that Sikhism always accorded due respect to people of all faith, Mr Bikram Majithia said “Guru Arjan Dev ji even got the foundation stone of Sri Harmandar Sahib laid by Sufi saint Hazrat Mian Mir keeping this in mind. The teachings of Guru Sahiban have always taught us love, respect and tolerance for everyone. It is our duty to keep every minority in Punjab safe and secure. Punjabis will never tolerate any harm coming to them”.
Condemning the manner in which the home ministry was being run, Majithia said chief minister Bhagwant Mann was directly responsible for this state of affairs. He said earlier also when noted singer Sidhu Moosewala was gunned down the chief minister went into a blame game exercise indicating former DGP VK Bhawra was responsible for the security lapses in the case. “However the truth is the chief minister is responsible for selecting the State police chief. Also in the Moosewala case it was the chief minister who took the decision to remove the singer’s security cover and even advertised this fact through official handles on social media”.
Asserting that the government needed to get its act together and ensure maintenance of law and order in the State, Majithia said instead of doing this the Punjab government was concentrating on providing security cover to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. “Kejriwal must be the only person who has Z plus security cover from both the centre and the Punjab government”.
