Chandigarh: Amid the ongoing protest by students of Chandigarh University, the Punjab Police have arrested a youth identified as Sunny Mehta from Shimla in Himachal Pradesh.
According to the police, the accused girl had sent MMS to this youth. A SIT has also been formed by the Punjab Police under the leadership of a senior IPS officer on the whole matter.
Himachal Pradesh DGP Sanjay Kundu tweeted, “Himachal Pradesh Police has shown sensitivity and acted on the request of Punjab Police and caught the accused. I congratulate Shimla SP Dr Monica for this.”
The Chandigarh University administration has issued a statement regarding the MMS leak case in the university. It has been said in this statement that the video of many girls living in the university hostel has not been leaked, but of just one girl. The police are currently investigating the case.
Describing the incident at Chandigarh University as unfortunate, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered high level probe into the matter.
The Chief Minister said that daughters are our dignity and pride adding that any such incident is highly condemnable. Bhagwant Mann said that he is peeved to learn about the entire matter and has asked the district administration to undertake in-depth enquiry about the incident.
