Ottawa: Canada is keeping an eye on ground cinnamon products after the U.S. warned about lead contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that American Spices LLC is recalling its Spice Class Brand ground cinnamon due to high lead levels. They have also warned about eight other cinnamon brands but reported no illnesses so far.

Canada’s Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is aware of the issue and has contacted U.S. authorities. They say no affected products are known to be distributed in Canada right now. The CFIA will keep the public updated if any Canadian products are found to be impacted.

The FDA has tested nine cinnamon products and found high lead levels. They advise people to avoid these products and throw them away. The FDA is still testing more samples to ensure safety.
