Ottawa: Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet outlined his demands for the government on Wednesday, stating that if they are not met by the end of October, it could lead to an early election. He wants the government to pass Bill C-319, which would increase Old Age Security (OAS) payments by 10% for seniors aged 65 to 74. The government had already boosted OAS payments for seniors 75 and older in 2022. Additionally, he is asking for the passage of Bill C-282, which would protect supply-managed sectors like dairy, poultry, and eggs from future trade negotiations. Blanchet emphasized that meeting these demands would benefit both Quebec and Canada as a whole. He noted that the government has not yet responded to his requests. However, fulfilling these demands may be challenging, as both bills require further parliamentary processes, including committee reviews and approvals, which could take months.
