Chandigarh: An Army jawan was arrested on Monday in connection with the firing at Bathinda military station. However, the police are yet to confirm the arrest. The Bathinda police is scheduled to hold a press conference at 12 noon.
There was a firing incident in Bathinda Military Station of Punjab on Wednesday morning. In this, 4 soldiers were killed.
The police had registered an FIR against the two unidentified attackers. It said the attackers had a rifle in one hand and an axe in the other. They were in civil clothes.
The army had issued a statement regarding the incident. “Four soldiers of an artillery unit were shot dead during the firing incident at Bathinda Military Station. No injury or damage to property was reported to any other jawan. The area has been sealed and a joint investigation is underway with the Punjab Police.”
The army had denied the terror attack. Bathinda SSP Gulneet Khuruna said that according to the information shared by the Army, no terrorist threat is suspected.
The army had said that two days before the firing, an INSAS rifle and 28 rounds of bullets had gone missing from inside the station. Police had said that 19 empty boxes of INSAS rifle were recovered from the spot. The rifle was also recovered by the police. Police are investigating the possible use of INSAS.
