British Columbia: British Columbia Premier David Eby is teaming up with Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey to challenge how federal funds are distributed across Canada. Eby argues that B.C. doesn’t receive its fair share, especially for major projects like the $4.15 billion George Massey Tunnel replacement and flood prevention in the Fraser Valley. Eby points out that while Quebec received $750 million to help with migrant costs, B.C. struggles to secure funding for crucial infrastructure.

Furey supports Eby, stating that the current equalization payments formula is outdated and unfair. Newfoundland and Labrador has already planned to sue the federal government, claiming they missed out on up to $1.2 billion over five years due to flaws in the system. Other provinces, including Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia, are also watching closely, considering joining the challenge.

Eby emphasizes that B.C. deserves fair treatment and funding in line with its population and needs. This joint effort aims to push Ottawa for a more balanced and transparent funding approach for all provinces.
