Chandigarh: Following the brutal murder of anti-drug activist, Lambardar Ram Gopal in Jalandhar district, Punjab’s Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday while reprimanding the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Punjab said what other evidence the AAP government needs to concede that the situation with law and order in the state had actually been collapsed and drug menace had risen under its rule.
“Is not it enough that AAP’s own supporter had been killed allegedly by drug paddlers? When would the AAP government led by CM Bhagwant Mann wake up from deep slumber if not now?”, asked Bajwa.
Senior Congress Leader Bajwa while citing the media reports said that Lambardar of Lakhanpal village in Jalandhar district, Ram Gopal had formed a Nasha Virodhi Front to expose the drug dealers in the area. However, the senior leadership of the AAP has yet to acknowledge that drug abuse in Punjab is growing at a rapid pace.
“Even the Supreme Court of India has condemned the AAP government in Punjab for not taking appropriate action on the manufacturing and selling of illegal liquor. The SC had also expressed concern over the drug menace in Punjab”, Bajwa added.
In a statement, Bajwa said that AAP’s National Convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal before assembly elections last year had made lofty claims about tackling drug abuse within four months of the formation of the AAP government. “It going to be a year in two months since the AAP had got hold of power in Punjab. Does not he owe an explanation to the people of Punjab now? “, LoP added.
