Chandigarh: After 32 hours, another blast has occurred again on the heritage road near the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab on Monday morning. There was no loss of life as blast took place early morning around 6am. The blast took place near the same spot where the incident took place late on Saturday night, police said.
So far, the police have not been able to find out the cause of the blast and in the meantime, the investigation is underway.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav and Amritsar Police Commissioner Naunihal Singh reached the spot. DGP denied any terror angle into the incident and said that it was a low-intensity explosive in a container.
He said that Punjab police is scientifically and forensically investigating the Amritsar explosions case to find the truth. Law & Order, Peace & Harmony in the state shall be maintained and mischief makers and rumour mongers shall be dealt with sternly.
After the incident, teams of Amritsar Police’s bomb disposal squad and forensic department also reached the spot. The surrounding area is being explored with a metal detector. Sewerage lines and gutters are also being examined.
One-way road from BR Ambedkar’s statue to Maharaja Ranjit Singh Statue Chowk has been closed. Suspicious things are being collected. The police have not yet issued any issued any statement in this regard.
Earlier, there was an explosion on Heritage Street at around 12 o’clock on Saturday night. Around six devotees were injured in the blast after the glass on the windows of Saragarhi parking lot was broken. DCP Parminder Singh Bhandal said that the forensic team has found some 3-4 pieces of suspicious from the spot, which has been sent for investigation.
