Imphal: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday announced that violence in Manipur will be investigated by a retired high court judge. A peace committee is also being formed.

On April 29, a hasty decision by the Manipur High Court led to ethnic violence and violence between two groups. Both sides should work towards maintaining peace and harmony. A relief and rehabilitation package has also been prepared. Rs 5 lakh will be given by the central government and Rs 5 lakh by the Manipur government for the families of those who lost their lives in the violence. This amount will be transferred to the victims through DBT.

Amit Shah said that the Government of India will set up a judicial commission of a retired Chief Justice of the High Court to investigate all these things, the causes of violence and who is responsible for the violence. All cases of violence will be investigated. The CBI will also investigate some of those cases, and I assure the people of Manipur that the investigation will be done without any bias and discrimination and the guilty will be punished.

“I appeal to all Manipuris, please don’t pay heed to rumours and maintain peace in the state. An era of development due to peace was going on in the state for the last six years. I also want to send a strong message to the Suspension of Operations Group (SoO Group) that any violation of the treaty, any deviation will be strictly taken note of and will be considered a breach of the treaty. Follow the terms of the agreement. The police will also launch a combing operation from tomorrow to seize the weapons.

He said that 8 special teams have been appointed to keep the medical facilities smooth, a team of senior officials of the Ministry of Education has reached here to ensure that there is no hindrance in the competitive examinations and this team will prepare a concrete plan after discussing with the state officials. We will give this plan a concrete shape in two days.
