Chandigarh: Lovepreet Singh Toofan, an aide of Waris Punjab chief Amritpal Singh, has been released from Amritsar jail in a kidnapping case.
Earlier, the Court of Ajnala had ordered his release. Inspector General of Amritsar Border Range Monish Chawla said the court has accepted the release application and Lovepreet Singh has been released.
Earlier, the SSP Satinder Singh said that Toofan presented evidence that he was not present at the spot. The police have submitted it to the court.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) will now investigate the cases registered against the associates of Amritpal, the head of the Waris Punjab De organization.
Despite this assurance of the police, the protesters continued their sit-in outside the police station. Punjab Police Border Zone IG Munish Chawla and Amritsar (Rural) SSP Satinder Singh said that a meeting of police officials has been held with the representatives of Waris Punjab De.
The activists of the organization agreed to withdraw the protest and assured that the workers would not spoil the atmosphere in any way. Jathebandi activist Lovepreet Singh alias Toofan will be released on Friday afternoon after the police complete the legal process. An SIT is being formed to cancel the case and investigate it thoroughly.
He said that the interaction of police officers with the representatives of the jathebandi was held in a amicable atmosphere. During this time, Amritsar Police Commissioner Jaskaran Singh was also present along with different police officers.

On February 17, a case was registered against Amritpal Singh, his six accomplices and 20 unidentified people at Ajnala police station on the statement of a youth named Varinder Singh.
Varinder Singh had alleged that Amritpal and his accomplices kidnapped him and assaulted him. Later, police arrested Toofan in this case.
