Amritsar: DIG Inderbir Singh, who is accused of drug trafficking and corruption, was questioned for over two hours by vigilance today. Vigilance officials questioned the DIG under the Drug Trafficking and Corruption Act. This case is being investigated by SSP Vigilance Ferozepur Gurmeet Singh and Surinder Singh SSP Vigilance Amritsar based SIT.
In July, a person named Surjit Singh was arrested by the police with 900 grams of opium and after his arrest, bribery and drug trafficking nexus came to fore of the senior police officials.
When the police questioned the drug smuggler Surjit Singh, he confessed to giving bribes to the DSP and others. On July 6, a corruption case was registered against the DSP of Tarn Taran and other employees. After DSP’s name was revealed in the case of drug smuggling and bribery, the police tightened the crackdown.
During the interrogation, the DSP made serious allegations of giving part of the bribe to the DIG, under which the vigilance is questioning the DIG Inderbir Singh. After questioning, the DIG said that all the allegations leveled against him are false and the matter is being investigated. Inderbir Singh is currently posted in Police Academy Phillaur.
