New Delhi: Shelly Oberoi will be the Aam Aadmi Party’s mayoral candidate. Patel is a councillor from ward 86 of the Nagar assembly. Aam Aadmi Party will be the deputy mayoral candidate Mohammed Iqbal. Iqbal is a councillor from ward 76 of Matia Mahal.
In the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections, the Aam Aadmi Party got 134 out of 250 seats and the BJP 104 seats. In this way, the AAP has a majority. The first meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is scheduled to be held on January 6, 2023. In this, the mayor and deputy mayor will be decided.
Even if the votes of MPs and MLAs are counted to elect the mayor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the AAP has a majority. The party has a total of 151 votes, while the BJP has 111. The apprehension about the post of mayor and deputy mayor was high because the party law does not apply to councillors in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Also, after a long time, there is very little difference between the ruling party and the opposition. Therefore, it was expected that the BJP could reverse the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
On the other hand, BJP will not participate in the mayoral elections to be held in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The party made this formal announcement today. Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly and BJP leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said, “We have already told that BJP will not participate in the mayoral election.”
